Migraines, cluster headaches and tension headaches are typically treated with pain medications such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), anti-seizure agents, and some anti-depressants, as well as specialised migraine prescriptions. These medications are all aimed at managing the pain, associated signs and symptoms.
Neurotoxin, known best for its anti-wrinkle treatment properties, can work as a prevention alongside pain medications in the direct treatment and prevention of headache and migraine.
Neurotoxin can be effective at preventing, lessening the number of migraine headaches, and reducing the severity of your migraine symptoms.

Bruxism – the medical term for teeth grinding – occurs most often in children but also affects an estimated 8% of adults. The grinding usually happens during sleep and can damage teeth, cause pain, and result in headaches and jaw problems. We don’t know exactly what the cause is, but it’s believed to stem from brain signals that lead to involuntary and forceful contraction of jaw muscles. Some evidence suggests a genetic predisposition, but bruxism may also stem from stress and anxiety, an abnormal bite or crooked or missing teeth. In addition, the effects of some drugs, including caffeine, may play a role. According to the American Dental Association, children may begin to grind their teeth in response to pain, discomfort from colds, ear infections, allergies and other health problems.
Many people affected don’t realize they grind their teeth in their sleep until told by someone who hears them doing it. Or a dentist may spot signs of damage caused by grinding during an exam.
TRADITIONAL TREATMENTs FOR bruxism (teeth grinding)
There aren’t many reliable treatments currently available for bruxism.
People have tried:
- Mouth guards fashioned by dentists or orthodontists. While these may protect against tooth damage. They don’t necessarily stop the grinding and many people find they need to replace them as they are damaged by the ongoing grinding.
- Behavioural treatments such as anxiety and stress reduction, as well as meditation
- Focussed facial relaxation and massage
- Avoiding sources of caffeine, alcohol (grinding tends to worsen after drinking), and chewing gum, which accustoms jaw muscles to clenching.
HOW DOES Neurotoxin HELP WITH bruxism (teeth grinding)?
Neurotoxin works by relaxing the chewing (and grinding) muscles of the jaw called you masseters. By interrupting the signals to these muscles they weaken over time.
It is important to note, that the muscle will continue to work and eating is not affected.
HOW EFFECTIVE IS NEUROTOXIN FOR bruxism (teeth grinding)?
In a 2017 study of 22 people with bruxism as confirmed on an overnight sleep study, nearly half of the people in the treatment group reported their symptoms were “much improved” or “very much improved” compared with no improvement reported in the placebo, or untreated group. These results were obtained between 4 and 6 weeks post treatment.
Most people report some relief from symptoms at around 4 weeks. Results usually last for 3 months at which time re-injection is recommended, with repeated dosing the effect may last longer with some people reporting relief lasting 6-9 months.
The active ingredient in anti-wrinkle injections has been formulated into a solution which is applied topically to the inside of the nose by inhalation or sniffing. The delivery technique, which is also commonly used for nasal treatments and pain relief for children in hospital is pain-free and easy to use. No needles are involved.
The Neurotoxin, after being applied to the nose, blocks the release of chemicals from the nerve endings, resulting in a reduction of hay fever symptoms.
Best results are achieved by having the treatment in early Spring when there is an increased amount of pollens in the air, but hay fever symptoms are mild. Results usually last around 3 months. It is recommended that treatments are repeated annually.
60% of clients report 90% reduction in symptoms.
For those who experience excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) of the armpits, hands, feet, head, or face, Neurotoxin injections have been shown to be a safe and effective treatment following the exclusion of medical causes and other treatments have failed.
In fact, Neurotoxin has been shown to decrease sweating in the areas injected by as much as 87%. And in cases of palmar (hand) excessive sweating, it has been shown to be up to 90% effective.
While sweating is necessary for our bodies to maintain healthy temperature levels, repeated Neurotoxin treatments for hyperhidrosis have been shown to be safe. The localised areas that are affected by the condition usually only contain a small percentage of the body’s sweat glands.
For example, the underarms contain less than two percent of the body’s sweat glands and have little to do with the body’s overall ability to regulate our temperature.
